roommates and 2012

Once again I haven't updated in forever, but its now 2012! Thats pretty exciting I guess. So engaged life has been going great, haven't started crazy wedding planning yet, little things here and there to try and pace myself because honestly it stresses me out more than anything. Weddings are so much work! Not to mention so much dang money! I don't know how people plan their weddings in like a month, props to them but I don't think I could handle it. Plus I couldn't with work and everything else in my life that gets in the way, hence getting married in June. But thats ok it will be well worth the wait plus hopefully beautiful Seattle weather! I went home for christmas with my family, and Spencer went home to his family, it was hard not being together but we survived. Then I flew into Vegas for new years before we came back to Utah. Can I just say that I am so incredibly lucky to have an awesome family of my own, and also awesome future in-laws.  Over break my parents decided to give us their timeshare for  our honeymoon, so we put in an exchange for Hawaii, almost certain it would be too late but we figured we would give it a shot, a couple days later we got an offer on Kauai, Marriott's Beach Club! So we took it! I am beyond excited, now all we have to do is book our flight.

Sometimes having roommates is hard, learning to live with someone else's way of doing things. But they always become your closest friends. Im enjoying my last few months of having my roommates and endless girl time. Alexis is one of my best friends and I love her to death, we so dang funny, at least we think we are.

Spencer was sitting across the table from us..

I got engaged!

I am so bad at updating my blog but lots of fun and exciting things have happened! I got engaged to the love of my life and could not be happier. On October 22 I flew back to Washington like I always do to go work. I said bye to Spencer that morning and he had said he had a big math test to take and had to study all day for, nothing out of the ordinary. When I landed in Wa my sister and one of my friends picked me up from the airport to go meet all my family and friends at my favorite restaurant like we always do when I come to town. We know all the workers at the restaurant and as I was sitting there stuffing my face with chips and salsa they told me my food would be out in just a second (everyone else had their food already and I was starving). Next thing I know, I get this plate set in front of me with a big red ribbon and a ring on it, I turn around to see Spencer standing there. To say the least I was shocked and so confused that the only thing I could manage to say was, "What are you doing here?!". He then got on one knee and proposed to me in front of all my family and friends. I was so teary eyed I managed to get out a yes as he put the ring on my finger, the whole restaurant had been watching and started cheering and people I didn't even know were crying lol (I also saw my dad all teared up ;) he's getting softer with age). Everyone was in on the plan except for me, which is shocking in itself that I had no idea what was happening, i'm the kid who's known all my christmas presents in advance since I was probably 10 yrs old. I just don't get surprised, and Spence knew that so it was so special to me that he wanted to make sure I didn't see it coming. My dad had secretly flown him out on the flight before me. It was one of the best moments of my life so far, i'm so thankful for my family and friends and for Spencer. I love Spencer's family as well and can't wait to be apart of it. We both are so truly blessed to have awesome families who love us both and are so excited for our marriage. Our wedding is June 28, 2012 and we will be sealed in the Seattle temple, then have an additional reception in Vegas where Spencer is from. I can't wait!

We dressed up as Mario and Princess Peach for Halloween

ok so im a little excited to be a bride and do "bride things"

I love Sundays with my fiance, me and a couple friends went and watched him teach sunday school today, I was so proud. He's just too cute.

my hair advice

Does your hairdresser always cut off more hair than you want? Can you never get your hair to properly style the way its supposed to? Do you want the right products for your hair but just don't know what to use? Im here to give you my personal hair advice, the same advice I give my own clients here at Studio Nine in Salt Lake City and also in Tacoma, Washington at Angelo Mendi Boutique.
First, there is a very simple solution to telling your hairdresser EXACTLY how much you want trimmed off your ends. NEVER use "inches" the thing about inches is they are different to everyone, your 2 inches may be someone else's 4 inches. Use your fingers held out vertically parallel to each other (ex. one finger, two fingers, three fingers) to show exactly how much you wish to be cut off.
The question I hear the most is, "How do I round brush my own hair?" truth is, i'm a hairdresser and I can hardly round brush my own hair. So my advice is, go get some big hot rollers, and at the least put them on the crown of your head rolled strait back to give you body on the top. Also if you are someone who curls your hair (like me) there is a very specific way to curl your hair to give you those big loose curls. Get a 1 1/4 sized curling iron, and make sure its ceramic. I use the Babyliss shown below, and that is a very affordable iron that works very well ($20-$30).
Although this is hard to explain, your going to want to start the curl at the root, rather than clamping the section of hair and pulling it to the end of the strand of hair then rolling it up. You want to clamp the hair closer to the root, pull the iron about halfway down the strand of hair and roll it up. Next release the clamp a little pulling the iron down the rest of the hair then roll it back up. That way you are curling the whole strand of hair but by starting at the root, you will have curl throughout the whole strand rather than just at the bottom. Your curl will last much longer. To give an even looser curl after your finished curling all your hair brush it out with a large paddle brush then finger through it and hairspray. Its also important to not hold the hair in the iron for too long, this should not take you long and you don't want your curls too tight, and when rolling your hair always roll back. If done properly you should have curls like this.
It's very important to use the right styling products on your hair to keep your hair healthy and to also achieve the looks you are wanting to get. A leave in product is an absolute MUST. Along with a professional shampoo and conditioner. I understand that a professional product is much more expensive than what you can buy in the store, but they are so much better for your hair and worth the investment. They also will last you much longer and keep your hair cleaner longer. If your hair is dry or if you color or most important bleach it, you need to be using something that is hydrating. If you have hair that is healthy but you feel it is flat or gets greasy fast, use something volumizing. If you want to ensure the color service you are getting from the salon you must be using the professional product they recommend, it will give you the longest lasting color you want, saving you money. A leave in product is going to make the biggest difference with styling your hair, whether its just a simple leave in conditioner or a mousse. My favorite brands of products are; ENJOY, Pureology, Kerastase, and Redken is a good line that is a little more affordable.
I've tried just about everything to make my hair grow. There are things you can do to make the process slightly faster, but to be realistic that is just going to take time.
-Vitamins are essential! What I take; biotin (double dose), fish oil, vitamin e,  and folic acid. I hear lots of people recommend pre-natals, I say if you're not pregnant theres no reason to take them. Its better to just focus on the vitamins that help your hair.
-Don't go without trimming your hair! it will not grow if the ends are damaged. Every 12 weeks get at least a baby trim, after 12 weeks your hair will start splitting.
-Extensions can be great but they are expensive and a lot of work, personally I buy Sally's clip in extensions. They work great and you can take them in and out as you please. Just get them cut to work with your own haircut.
- Eat a healthy diet, hair is all made up of protein!
-Try to wash your hair every other day so you don't dry it out, and frequently brush your hair to stimulate the scalp.

Thats all for now!

tribute to spencer

Im never a girl to brag about my boyfriend, or post a status announcing to the whole world how wonderful he is to make other people feel terrible if they aren't in a great relationship too. But this is my blog, and its choice to read it or not :) and it's true, my boyfriend is wonderful, I don't know what I did to deserve such a kind hearted,  unselfish person. Who brings me cupcakes just because, and never complains about driving a half hour to my apartment to see me. I feel sad for people who have misconceptions of love, or aren't being treated the way that they should. Everyone will have struggles, whether they are big or small. But I believe that love is a gift, and it should be treated as one. Love is a two way unselfish street, they care for you just as you care for them. President Hinckley said, "I have since come to know that love is more than a paper heart. It is the very essence of life. It is the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. But it is not at the end of a rainbow; it is at the beginning, and from it springs the beauty that arches across the sky on a stormy day. It is the security for which children weep, the meat and drink of youth, the adhesive that binds marriage and the lubricant that prevents devastating friction in the home; it is the peace of old age, the sunlight of hope shining through death. How impoverished are those who lack it, and how rich those who have it!" I don't think it could have been said better. I love you Spence and i'm so thankful for everything you are and that you do :)
most importantly, i'm so glad I can be my complete, imperfect, goofy self around you

time flys when your havin fun

I can't believe how time flys. It's almost October! I've already lived in Utah for four months now, but i'm loving this almost fall time weather. It's so nice out and i'm actually kind of excited to wear boots and scarfs again. Maybe i'll even try to get better at snowboarding this winter..ha ha sike. That would be the day. Everything has been great, a few weeks ago Spence came to Seattle with me, we went to Chases football game, did the Puyallup Fair, and went to a Mariners game with my family. Oh and last week we went on a group date and went to a haunted forest, probably the scariest thing of my life. Tears were rolling down my face and I squeezed Spencer's side so tight I hurt my own shoulder..literally a strait hour of my worst nightmare. Never again.

isn't he just the cutest

the puyallup fair; where 3 yr olds race sheeps

there's this boy..

and...
i love him!
Spencer Paul Haire is the most amazing person and i'm so thankful to have him in my life. I'm head over heels for this boy to say the least. He treats me like a princess even when I don't deserve it, he's so patient and kind, and he can always make me burst out laughing even if i'm furious or on the verge of tears. I want to always be able to make him as happy as he makes me. We started talking four months ago before I moved here, while he was also still living at his home in Vegas, and i'm so happy that were both in Utah now and I can give him a big hug anytime I want.

oh and he's pretty cute too ;)
